My wife, Lois Rhodes Pipkin, and I returned to Florida in 1999, after having
lived in New York City, Matawan, NJ, St. Louis, MO, Sioux City, IA, and
Golden, CO.
Our son, Stephen Pipkin, born in New York City, lives in Richfield, MN with
his wife, Kan, and children, Aaron, Eric, Elizabeth and Samantha.
Our daughter, Amy, born in St. Louis, lives in Parker, CO.
Alva, like Thomas Alva Edison who once spent the night at the home of my
grandparents, Daniel Moses Pipkin and Sarah Moore Pipkin, at Scott Lake near
Lakeland, Florida.
My uncle, Marvin Pipkin, (my father's brother - both sons of Daniel Moses
Pipkin) invented the inside frosted light bulb in 1925. He was a scientist
with General Electric. He also invented the "white glow all over" light
bulb, and he invented the first automatically synchronized photo flash bulb.
Their brother, Wilbur Pipkin, invented the citrus juice machine used in the
citrus canning plants in Florida.
