J.P. Alley was born in Little Rock, Ark. Jan. 15, 1840. He was left an orphan at the age of two years and was raised by his aunt Mrs. Mary Pipkin of Saline Co. He made a profession of religion in 1857 at Piney Grove church in the same Co. He was married to his first wife Miss Malana Snow Sept. 22, 1859; she was the mother of eight children and died peacefully May 22, 1880. He was married the second time to Mrs. M.C. Lane of Lonoke Co., Jan. 15, 1884, and lived happy together for more than seven years. He died Jan 27, 1891 at his home near McNealon church. He suffered much during his last illness, but leaned on the strong arm of the Lord. When he was told by his loving wife he could not recover he was asked if all was well, he answered "O Yes-yes-yes, all is well." He lived right and died well and in the holy triumph. He licensed to preach soon after the war and was a faithful minister of the gospel in the local ranks, we labored much together and were intimate neighbors and preachers. I have lost a good friend and the wife a devoted husband and the children a loving and father(sic). May God bless the afflicted family.
