Harrison Daily Times, Harrison, Ark, Feb. 2, 1987 John Simmons, Sr., 67 of Arkadelphia Col. Retired John Wesley Simmons Sr., 67 of Arkadelphia, died Friday at his home. A native of Arkadelphia, he was a retired attorney and a Henderson State University Professor. Col. Simmons was retired from 20 years in the military and served in both World War II and the Korean War. A prisoner of was in World War II, he was a member of the 101st Airborne Division. During the Korean War he was a member of the Seventh Division, 17th Infantry, which was the first American unit to reach the Manchurian border. He was the recipient of the Silver Star for Valor during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Lou Pipkin Simmons of the home; one son, John Wesley Simmons, Jr. of Little Rock; two daughters, Mrs. Sherry Simmons Bishop of Harrison and Mrs. Julie Simmons Temple of Lindale, TX; one sister Mrs. Dell Dalton of Amelia Island, FL and five grandchildren.
